Policing has taken a variety of different forms since it’s inception. Danica sought to explore it’s depths across europe.
As danica’s first non-fiction piece, she had a very strict vision for how she saw her book looking on shelves. The challenge in place only helped enhance the final result.
The goal
Produce a book cover that evokes a classic feel while still hitting a modern take.
The approach
Using Nicolaes Eliasz Pickenoy’s eerie work in collaboration with typography positioning, allows the artwork to seem as though the Civic Guards are staring at the audience. Bright sans serif fonts allow for a more contemporary visual to play against the classical artwork background, as per Danica’s request.
Results
While not as successful as her Fiction work, he success of the book has been encouraging as Danica plans her second Non-Fiction book.
